Buena Vista Town Trustee Candidate Forum is March 5th

Tuesday, March 5, 2024 (5:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (MST)

Description

The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County invites all town residents and other interested members of the public to the Town Trustee Candidate Forum on Tuesday, March 5th from 5-7 pm at the Buena Vista Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Crossman Avenue. Each of the six candidates running for the four open seats in the April 2nd Trustees election have confirmed their attendance and include Thomas Brown, Margaret (Maggie) Huyck, Andy Matkovich, Michal Rosenoer, Andrew Rice and Devin Rowe. Rice and Rowe are currently trustees whose terms are expiring and they are running for re-election. Three of the seats are four-year terms that will expire in 2028; the fourth will expire in 2026. The three candidates who receive the highest votes will hold the four-year Trustee positions; the candidate receiving the next highest vote total will fill the term expiring in 2026. The event’s format will include introductory statements from each candidate, a lightning round of questions, the traditional “Candidating” where candidates move from table to table and are questioned by participants and a closing followed by a “Meet & Greet.” During the lightning round each candidate will be asked the same question, rotating who goes first with each question. “It is an honor to provide this service of bringing non-political and non-partisan informational events to our community,” said Grace Garret, LWVCC Voter Services. “These forums are well attended and serve to inform our citizens and encourage voting”. A video of the candidates statements and lightning round questions and answers will be recorded and available to be viewed later at LWVChaffeeCounty.org Ballots will be mailed to active voters within the town limits on March 11. Additional candidate forums hosted by the League are tentatively scheduled, including a Sangre de Cristo Board Candidate Forum,Tuesday, April 30 from 5-7 at the Buena Vista Community Center, Pinon Room and the Chaffee County Commissioners Candidate Forum, Wednesday, October 9th from 5-7 pm at the Poncha Springs Town Hall. Two other candidate forums could include Colorado House District 13 and U.S. Representative for Colorado's Seventh Congressional District—although neither incumbent is being challenged at this time.
