World Day Against Human Trafficking--July 30

Tuesday, July 30, 2024

Description

Bringing our Valley Hope (formerly BV HOPE) is joining with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on World Day Against Human Trafficking in urging accelerated action to end child trafficking. Children represent a significant proportion of trafficking victims worldwide, with girls being disproportionately affected. This year’s theme–”Leave No Child Behind”--recognizes that one in three victims of human trafficking globally is a child. And, according to the UN Office’s recent Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, children are twice as likely to face violence during trafficking than adults. Among the ways the UN Office encourages participation in the observance are to: Raise awareness–Share, like and comment on the social media messages for the World Day using the Hashtag #EndHumanTrafficking. Be aware–Inform yourself about human trafficking. Visit https://www.bvhope.org/ or read the recent Global Report on Trafficking in Persons.Be alert–If you see anything that you think might be related to a human trafficking crime, inform the police, or call a local antitrafficking helpline.(National Human Trafficking Hotline-888-373-788 text 23373 or Colorado Human Trafficking Hotline-866-465-5075) Remember, victims can be coerced in many ways. You could come across a victim anywhere, be it at work, in school, online, traveling, or in your private life. If you are unsure, please err on the side of caution and inform responsible parties rather than ignore a potential victim. Get involved–Find out what is being done in your community and see what you can do to help end human trafficking. Encourage everyone in your communities – friends, family, business partners, colleagues – to educate themselves about human trafficking. HOPE also encourages members of the community to plan to attend the upcoming fundraising gala sponsored by the sister organization Elizabeth Anne’s Haven on August 20th, 5:30 p.m. at The Barn at Sunset Ranch. Visit https://www.eahaven.org/upcoming-events for more information and to purchase tickets. ### Bringing our Valley HOPE (formerly BV HOPE) was launched in 2014 because of the increasing danger of human trafficking in the United States and Colorado. We now bring education and information to central Colorado to help prevent trafficking in our communities. For more information, visit www.bvhope.org
